Product Manager

An exciting opening has become available for a Product Manager to join a sought-after employer based in Umhlanga. This high performer will be responsible for leveraging the business with commercial insights to identify and launch new products, and to manage and execute the daily operations of individual products.

The role encompasses end-to end responsibility for delivering the Business Products roadmap, Product Profitability, Product Development, Product Lifecycle Management, Product Pricing and Product Positioning.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Development:
  • Identify and select compelling telco products and services from existing and future retail product portfolio / infrastructure.
  • To develop and execute the telco product portfolio by product planning, development, execution and management throughout the product life-cycle
  • Conduct research on existing or new products and/or vendors in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity. Contribute innovative concepts, new designs, or techniques, which are significant in solving important problems.
  • Serve as a specialist in the application of retail telco product concepts, principles and processes. Keeps abreast of trends, competitor activity, new methods and developments that affect the organisation for the purpose of recommending changes
  • Working cross-functionally with the teams to identify joint opportunities and new market-led technologies 
Product Planning and Management:
  • Develop full business cases, recommendations and delivery plans for selected products
  • Manage the product development roadmap and delivery plan using internal / external resources 
  • Review and amend and/or maintain the customer experience of the retail telco product portfolio 
  • Evolve, execute and own the customer experience for each telco product
  • Review and amend and/or maintain the customer experience of the retail telco product portfolio 
  • Liaison with the distribution department regarding product optimisation, current sales and price points, and opportunities for new product development and new sales channel opportunities
Product Marketing:
  • Bring new retail telco products to market by driving the full product lifecycle of a portfolio of products already and work closely with Finance, Sales, Technology, Marketing, BI and Support to implement revenue generating products that extract maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Define, implement and manage retail telco product strategies to achieve defined revenue and GP targets.

Product Commercials:
  • Compile and execute all budgets and forecasting relating to each retail telco product within the portfolio
  • Seek out opportunities to optimize existing retail telco products through a commercial perspective to drive revenue growth.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Product, Service and pricing strategies and explore innovative options to create value added services.
  • Long-term planning and/or budgets translating strategy into action.
  • Efficiently cost all projects to ensure quality and profitability. Determine funding priorities and make budget decisions.
Key Requirements:
  • University Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Economics, Business Administration, specialising in Marketing, Sales and/or Business Operations
  • Minimum 5 years in a commercial product management position with exposure to sales, operations and budget control
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Telecommunications Sector
  • Demonstrable track record of successfully identifying and launching retail telco products 
  • Business planning and commercial modelling experience
  • Commercial negotiation and vendor management
  • Ability to work in a pressurized environment
